Joint Health and Mobility

Joints health plays a major role in our mobility and overall well-being

They are the connections between our bones that allow us to bend. As we age so does our joints. Having strong bones and healthy joints go hand in hand, the best way to care for your joints is to keep your muscles, ligaments and bones resilient and stable. There are a lot of factors that can affect our joints, such as injures, inflammation, muscle atrophy, and overuse. There are some things that you can do to protect your joints and to prevent degeneration.

Try getting out and moving more. Try different exercise routines to help with stretching and strengthening. Maintaining good posture (sitting up straight), wearing comfortable shoes (no heels or wedges), carry a smaller bag or purse with less weight. Managing your weight can also make a big difference in your joints. Just 10 lbs. of extra body weight can increase the force on your knees by 30 to 60 lbs. with every step you take. Shedding off the extra weight with proper diet and exercise can help reduce a lot of future pain to your joints.

Did you know that by eating an anti-inflammatory diet can help with your joint problems; by focusing on fresh, whole foods, including a lot of green leafy vegetables? Load up on your alliums – garlic, onions and leeks because they contain bioactive compounds that can help protect against osteoarthritis. Cherries are also highly anti-inflammatory. You should avoid processed and artificial additives, sugars and alcohol. Drink plenty of water to help lubricate your joints. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day.

Also, get with your doctor about taking the right supplements to help with your overall health. Whether or not you are getting enough calcium or Vitamin D in your diet, make sure to make an appointment to follow up on your wellness. By keeping it at bay overtime it will continue to decline.
